Support to School and Community

Money raised by the Johnson PTO efforts are necessary to maintain many of the wonderful programs and events that are provided to our children. These programs and materials directly benefit each and every student at Johnson Elementary. Each year presents us with a new need or endeavor and the PTO is flexible in how it helps the staff provide the best educational experiences possible.

Cultural Arts

Johnson School, in conjunction with Natick's Cultural Arts Committee brings outstanding performing arts programs to the school. Cultural Arts Programs are funded primarily through the PTO. Previously sponsored programs have included:

• Trips to Boston Symphony Hall
• The Danforth Museum and Nutcracker Ballet
• Visits by authors, poets, and musicians, and programs with naturalists and Native Americans

Each program makes a unique contribution to our children's education and is designed to complement the curriculum.

Field Trips

Field trips add a lasting value to the classroom experience for students at Johnson. The PTO raises funds to subsidize the bus cost of these trips which lowers the cost for students to participate in these trips.

Peacemakers Music with a Message

Peacemakers, a music program for third and fourth grade students, is a beautiful and unique Johnson Elementary School program that the PTO financially supports. It emphasizes human differences, self-esteem and empowerment, community building, patriotism, character and citizenship and social justice. Learn more about the Peacemakers.

Materials and Technology for Classrooms

The PTO fills in gaps in materials and technology that is not covered by the town. For instance, the PTO funded the initial pieces of the gymnasium rock wall several years ago.

Community Events

Each year the PTO hosts several fun community events including a Kindergarten coffee, Fall Fun Fair, Family Game Night, and Spring Picnic.

Scholarship Assistance

The PTO helps cover the cost of field trips for students who would otherwise not be able to attend. The PTO also provides scholarship for a high school graduating Johnson alum.

School Celebrations

The PTO provides every incoming kindergartner a special Johnson kindergartener t-shirt. The PTO also provides the ribbons for field days and balloons and flowers for various celebrations.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation and Grants

The PTO provides the water and coffee in the staff lounge as well as providing each teacher an end-of-year gift of appreciation. There are also mini-grants provided for teachers to buy classroom supplies.

PTO Operational Costs

The PTO keeps costs very low and is careful about every dollar spent, but does spend a minimal amount on supplies and childcare for each PTO meeting.
